Great Literary Game: The Fundamental Purpose of Fandoms, Fanfiction, and Transformative Art

A successor to the 100 Years of Narrative Art panel, this lecture provides an academic look into the fundamental nature of fandoms from the early shamans to the modern entertainment industry. We will look at the concept of Alan Moore's "Great Literary Game", the legal case of the Air Pirates, the rise of the 2010's Animation Revival, the fight between transformative art and escapism, and what role you the fans play in this cultural process.
