The Doctor Who Regeneration Chart by SouthParkTaoist The Doctor Who Regeneration Chart by SouthParkTaoist
In honor of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary and the Time of the Doctor Christmas Special coming up I present my Doctor Who Regeneration Chart which I have been working on for the last week or so.

While I have loosely known of Doctor Who through Tumblr for a while I didn't really start watching until Name of the Doctor aired and after that I got hooked. I watched a handful of episodes leading up to the 50th Day of the Doctor (my favorite currently is Paul McGann after seeing Night of the Doctor). Afterwards I made this chart, as a new fan this was more so created for myself so I can better understand all this regeneration stuff, which is a bit confusing to a newcomer like me. Especially after the addition of the War Doctor, my confusion with the Shalka Doctor, the early rejuvenations, the Peter Cushing Dr. Who, and Moffat recently stating the regeneration energy used to created the Metacrisis Doctor counted towards the numbering. I also added little interesting facts I picked up along the way. I hope this chart clears some things up. If not, this was still a fun project to draw, my first time drawing humans in a while (a refreshing change from ponies).

EDIT 1: For clarification it should be noted that canon incarnations of the Doctor are in the darker circles, all the light ones are not canon or parodies. Corrected some spelling errors on the poster.

EDIT 2: As some have pointed out the Pokemon character is named "Looker" not "The Looker", I was probably just thinking it sounded close to "The Watcher" when I made this. It has been changed to just "Looker". As well some have pointed out a huge number of different non-canon Doctors, but if I included them all this poster would be impossible to read. I will try to get of all of them listed here just for reference.

UPDATE: Thanks to Doctor Who TV for posted this poster on their site.

I started drawing all the caricatures about a week ago. Each one took roughly one hour from sketching to final inking to finish. I finished 6 on my first night, 3 the next day and the rest the day after. I will probably upload all the Doctor caricatures to DeviantArt later but for now here the links to all of them on my Tumblr page where you can see my additional comments and progress on this piece:

12th Doctor chocolatepony.tumblr.com/post/… (Reblogged by the Official DW Tumblr :3 )
The Watcher and Metacrisis chocolatepony.tumblr.com/post/…
Curse of the Fatal Death Doctors chocolatepony.tumblr.com/post/…

Parodies and Pastiches: The Professor (BBV Productions, played by the 7th Doctor), Doctor Hooves formerly Doctor Whooves and Time Tuner (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic), Doctor Lazer Rage (Silverman Program, played by the 9th Doctor), Inspector Spacetime (Community), the Looker (Pokemon), and Professor Paradox (Ben Ten)
Similar Characters: Witch Doctor or Shaman, the Time Travelers, Mary Poppins, Ms. Frizzle (Magic School Bus), Kyon a.k.a. John Smith (Haruhi Suzumiya), and the Doctor (The Authority).

This Chart is free to share, link, and use. However please do not re-edit or reproduce my artwork without notifying me or for commercial gain.

I was actually trying to keep myself away from social media as not to spoil myself of the next Doctor, but will update it before the Christmas episode.

Your chart The Doctor Who Regeneration Chart is incomplete. The actual genesis of The Doctor is the 1957 Warner Bros. movie 'The Story of Mankind'. In it Ronald Colman as "... a mysterious stranger who wanders through time and acts as the Spirit of Man". His first appearance in the movie can be seen at 3.bp.blogspot.com/-r67NS2zVGo0… and at www.studenthandouts.com/01-Web…

Maybe Ms Frizzle is the Master. . . after her TARDIS isn't broken, it is just choosing to be a school bus. . .

Not the Master, the Rani. And the "Magic School Bus" is a higher Mark TARDIS than the Doctor's that deliberately (because of Chameleon Arch usage?) sealed off its control room.

Had a thought: should you do another update, Doctor Omega might be worth adding in the "similar characters" section. Although I appreciate there's not much room for another character. He's quite similar to the original conception of the Doctor, and predates him.

Good artwork, definitely, but there's just one problem I have with this;  all of the 'alternate' Doctors on the list are described as 'non-canon', when it's clear that Doctor Who doesn't have a canon. If it did, I don't think there would be two or three different destruction's of Atlantis, among other things. (And besides, as far as I'm concerned, the Lenny Henry Doctor will always be 'canon', which it wouldn't be if there was a real canon. So kudos to that.)

But seriously, ever since the beginning, the show-runners have never made any attempt at keeping a canon for Doctor Who. None of the producers or executives have ever stated just what is and isn't canon; as far as they are concerned, everything is canon, and nothing is. And so, all of those 'non-canon' Doctors have every right to be 'canon', by virtue of there not being a canon. And that's the beautiful thing about Doctor Who. It encompasses everything that ever happened and everything that ever will, and I'd also say everything that ever could. It doesn't have to be beholden to one particular view of 'what continuity. Just what DW continuity is to one fan could be completely different to another, and there's nothing wrong with that.

In closing, I'll just leave this: www.paulcornell.com/2007/02/ca…

in the top right, they left out Dr. Lao (as in Circus of).  Extremely aged, knows historical figures, can vanish and reappear in different areas, circus tent is larger inside than out, can make machines and people stop and go at will (ala sonic screwdriver).

but didn't Smith's Doctor state right before he regenerated that his regen into Capaldi was the start of a brand new cycle of regenerations?

That puts Capaldi as 1.2 (or first doctor/second cycle)...not 13.

So since the Stolen Earth had Tennant regenerate into technically himself (regenerated but kept the same face) and End of time had a complete face regeneration, that puts SMITH as 13 and Tennant as technically both 11 and 12.

so if anything happened to Metacrisis in Pete's World, it's possible he'd regenerate into the Valeyard.

That would certainly piss him off, since he is technically much darker than other Doctors, I don't think he'd be able to handle being able to regenerate, especially considering he thought he was too human to do so.

There was another Doctor Who pastiche created by Marvel in the 80's, his "Tardis" was a small bookshop.

With War Doctor coming after 8, that makes him Nine. The count has now been thrown off. So Every one from Eccleston on needs to be re-numbered to reflect the new order since Moffat bolluxed everything up

And the Valeyard was established as the Twelveth Doctor. Apparently Moffat didnt bother himself to watch any of the Sixth Doctors adventures.

Rubbish, it was explicitly stated that the Valeyard was somewhere between his twelfth and final regeneration. Nothing doesn't fit in there. And as for the count, he isn't the Ninth Doctor, he's "The War Doctor", he just happened to be the Ninth regeneration. Christopher Eccleston is the Ninth Doctor, because he referred to himself as The Doctor. I'm sick of "fans" like you winging and poking holes that aren't there. Let me guess, big RTD fan? Quite whining.

Nutcase, I've been watching Doctor Who for 30 years and if anything, Doctor Who breaks its own timelines over and over again as new stories are written.  You might recall Battlefield, the 7th Doctor is referred to as Merlin, meaning that at some future point or a divergent timeline, he takes on the role.

But that makes him the Metacrisis doesn't it?

Since it was stated that he was somewhere between his twelfth and final regenerations. His twelfth regeneration was Stolen Earth (Since he regenerated into himself, just didn't change the face) and his final was End of time.

Capaldi is the FIRST doctor in a whole new cycle.

For Capaldi, yes.  The Valeyard was written as the Doctor somewhere between his 12th and final regeneration.  I will need to reread or watch the episode to get the exact wording.

With the introduction of the War Doctor and the creation of the meta-crisis incarnation, those used two regenerations.

Actually, he directed his regeneration energy into his hand and that counted as a regeneration.

yeah, that's what I meant. In Stolen Earth/Journey's End, Ten regenerated into...Ten, using up one of his regenerations. The Metacrisis was created between this regeneration and the next time he regenerated (the final time into 'Eleven')

The Curator in the end, who tells the true Name of the big Image is the fourth Doctor (Actor and Char), just older.

Nice picture, I love it!

Couldn't have been the character because The Curator possesses knowledge that the 4th doctor did not have and is also physically far older than the 4th doctor ever became, thus he is a different character as is commonly acknowledged, but yeah it's the same actor, so it's been postulated that perhaps the Curator is The Doctor's "retired" character, taking the form he liked the best or some such stuff.
